Paris’s prettiest “village districts”
Paris was built on its villages. These timeless places, once often working-class, have now become an integral part of the capital.
Follow us as we take you back in time to visit our favorite spots that have retained all their charm of yesteryear!
Montmartre, bohemian and mythical
Today, the district has become one of the most emblematic in Paris, but Montmartre was once a working-class village, populated by artists, cabarets and very modest houses made from odds and ends. The rural village spread out over the top of the hill and cohabited with the “places of pleasure” at the foot of the hill.
Today, the modest, working-class atmosphere in which Montmartre was built is far removed, but the district has retained its spontaneity, freshness and indescribable authentic charm.
An unmissable district to visit the next time you’re with us!
“Mouzaia”, peaceful and bucolic
“La campagne à Paris”, magical and unsuspected
Like Mouzaïa, the Butte aux Cailles district is a very rural area, an island of tranquility where the soul of a small village has been carefully preserved. In addition to the remarkable calm offered by the Butte, curious strollers also venture here to observe the many works of street art on the walls. In the evening, the alleyways welcome locals and visitors alike, who come to enjoy a refreshing beer on a café terrace.
“Les Batignolles”, family-friendly and lively
This is one of Paris’s most emblematic village districts. Gradually becoming a must-see in tourist guides, its tranquil, flower-filled setting, but also its lively, “bon enfant” atmosphere, thanks to its many cafés and boutiques, make it a great place to stroll. For a quick glimpse, head for the intimate Place du Docteur Félix Lobligeois, with its pretty church, fountain and cafés under the lime trees. It’s almost as if you’ve left Paris for a small provincial town!
