Foucher, the chocolate goldsmith

The year-end holidays are approaching. If you are looking for the feel and bringing back of an iconic memory of Paris, this illustrious Maison, founded in 1819 and located two minutes from the Etats-Unis Opera hotel, is an absolute must-visit.Pralines, glazed chestnuts, cherries … many specialties that are as beautiful to admire as delicious to taste. For pleasure of the palate

The year-end holidays are approaching. If you are looking for the feel and bringing back of an iconic memory of Paris, this illustrious Maison, founded in 1819 and located two minutes from the Etats-Unis Opera hotel, is an absolute must-visit.

Pralines, glazed chestnuts, cherries … many specialties that are as beautiful to admire as delicious to taste. We have tested them for you.

The classical packaging is elegant but you can also opt for a vintage illustration, originally commissioned by the Maison from artists of the period, starting from 1890.

We have tested 5 chocolates: 

Cracus praline: almond-hazelnut filling – praline nougatine. The praline is absolutely outstanding.

Powerful and lingering in the mouth. The crunch is delicious!

Amandine: Almond praline – beautiful chocolate power with a great impact on the palate. The marzipan is not too sweet and the aromas are natural, which is not common: aromas vitaminised with almond essences that give them an artificial flavour are too often found.

Coque-noix: Almond praline, dark chocolate shell topped with a walnut kernel – an original arrangement combining the finesse of the worked product and the raw material of the nut.

Palet Foucher: Dark milk-based ganache (64%) – nice texture and freshness in the mouth.

We are not particularly fans of ganache, but we really enjoyed it.

Marzipan-pistachio: Pretty chocolate coating, subtle marzipan – perhaps deserves more filling but that may depend on taste.

The Maison also offers a range of “Origine” chocolate bars.

Along with many other surprises, like this egg praline to be tasted off a spoon, you’ll also find candied chestnuts or cherries. You will have to wait until the Easter holidays when its little “langues de chat”, deliciously topped with fine chocolate, are offered for the enjoyment of young and old.

Two centuries of history !

The first shop opened in 126 rue du Bac in 1819. The address still exists today. A little later, in 1890, Caroline Foucher commissioned illustrations inspired by the “Belle Epoque” and created a range of packaging for the brand. These are the illustrations that are used today.

For his part, Louis Foucher was behind the Maison’s development: he opened 5 new shops between 1830 and 1930 and organised delivery of its products.

Later, in 1973, Alain Grangé, young nephew of Louis Foucher, set up distribution of Chocolats Foucher in Japan. Today, La Maison Foucher is one the 10 oldest Parisian companies still owned by the founding family. Is this not a guarantee of tradition and quality?
