The Abduction from the Seraglio by Mozart

Mozart’s “The Abduction from the Seraglio” is playing from 16 October 2014 to 15 February 2015 at the Opéra Garnier, 3 minutes from the Hôtel des Etats-Unis Opéra.

About ”The Abduction from the Seraglio”

Mozart composed “The Abduction from the Seraglio” in 1782 at the age of 25, at the peak of his musical maturity. It was the first opera the maestro had written in German and in addition was a Singspiel, alternating sung and spoken parts.

It tells of the attempt by the rich Belmonte, to rescue his fiancée Konstanze who was being held prisoner in the palace of the Turkish Pasha Selim.

It was written as a light, entertaining piece. Since the action takes place in the palace of an eighteenth century pasha, the music is exotic (triangles, cymbals and kettle drums)
